Solar Water Pumps in New Zealand
Our first pump in New Zealand was installed near Napier, in 1998. Drought conditions in this area left the cattle too tired to walk to the top of ridges to source the feed. Not only was the 60 metre elevation an issue for them but the steepness of the hills.
A small slow flowing spring in the gully had been made into a small covered well. This has a pipe fitted which runs down the gully into a small tank which is big enough for a days water supply for the cattle. The solar pump sits at this point. The Hardi pump pushes water to the top of the ridge where storage tanks feed troughs along the ridge top. This then provided the cattle with their water source while they sought feed on the high points, enabling them to stay in the area without the need to descend the steep terrain.
The solar panels have been placed some distance away in a sunny position for best performance.
This then doubled the production ability for the customer by providing a high and low watering point.
A visit to the site was made by Solar Water Pumps staff (photos above) and we were impressed to see the 19 year old pump working as it should. Although the design is considerably different to how we build them now, it shows the reliability and durability of the pump.
